PM Instructs Education Minister to Consider the Education of Migrant Worker Children

PHNOM PENH: The Prime Minister of Cambodia has verbally ordered the Minister of Education, Hang Chuon Naron, to consider the education of the children of migrant workers, both inside and outside the country.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for students of Phnom Penh International University on Tuesday morning, 11 October, the Prime Minister remarked on how there are some people who work at sites away from their homes so they send their children to stay and be taken care of by their grandparents, while there are other parents who also take their children with them to work, such as to construction sites. As a result, the children may not be going to school.

"[We should] find a way to solve this problem, by contacting schools nearby so that the children can still go to school," he said.

The Prime Minister also said that the children of Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand and Korea also need to be considered.

"We need to think about everyone so that no one is left outside the stream of education," he said.
